Plan An Inexpensive Wedding [article from Articleranks]

Plan An Inexpensive Wedding

Do you plan to get married on a tight budget? Believe it or not, it is possible. Weddings can be awfully expensive, but there are ways to cut down on costs.

It's a good idea to write down everything you spend, and also how much you can afford to spend in total. You can even create a spreadsheet with different headers and a ballpark figure beside them that you can update when you receive estimates from different service providers.

Always keep in mind that the only thing truly necessary for you to get married is to have a marriage license; all else is extra. The rest should be adjusted to your budget. There is no right or wrong, and you should do what feels right for you.

Of course, most people will have at least a few wedding guests and provide them with a meal. If your budget is very tight, you can do this at someones house. But you will probably have it catered by professionals.

By all means shop around to find who can provide a good tasty meal for a low cost, but remember that with catering you often get what you pay for. Explain to the caterers that you are on a strict budget and ask for less expensive menu options. Consider limiting the choice of alcoholic drinks, for example by offering only wine and beer instead of a full bar.

Keep your guest list down to a minimum, since that's where the expense usually comes from. You don't need to feel guilty if you can't invite everybody. In fact as a general rule, the fewer people you invite, the less you will hurt anybody's feelings. If you cannot invite all of your work colleagues it may be best to invite none of them.

The wedding dress can be another big expense, so you need to keep that in mind. Would you wear a dress that's not new? Would you consider hiring?

What about asking someone in the family if they have a vintage dress that could be updated and fitted for the new bride? An original wedding dress from an era gone by could really add a touch, and you could plan the whole wedding theme around it.

There are several other things you can cut down or right down cut out. Flowers, for example, are something that's usually in surplus at weddings. Costly wedding favors, centerpieces or printed invitations are not necessary. You can make many of these things yourself or have them made by friends when you are planning a wedding on a small budget.
